Saints in the Shadows-my review
I gave this book four stars. It kept my interest and was an easy read. A book by Alana Cash about a young woman that refuses to admit it by she is physic. Here is the synopsis:
The book is set in New Orleans and Manhattan and it’s about Maud Strand who moved to New York because she’s mourning the loss of the her father in an accident. Maud has a secret, a secret buried so deep in her psyche that she can’t even remember it, but it’s running her life. She’s drifting in New York when she meets Lina Strand aka Madame Budska a physicist turned psychic to the elite. Madame Budska’s clients are a billionaire hedge fund manager, a political kingmaker, a TV celebrity, and a crazy Princeton professor. Is she a “real” psychic or a charlatan? Actually not, but she’s kind of wonderful. More like a fairy godmother who nurtures damaged people without judgment.
After a few months acquaintance, Lina asks Maud to take over the Madame Budska business while Lina goes off for what she called “the big reveal.” She trains Maud as a psychic to “listen until you hear”, “look until you see.” It’s the act of listening helps Maud unlock her mind and remember the secret that has kept her adrift in grief.
Beyond revealing secrets and the process of grief, Saints in the Shadows dabbles in provocative subjects such as religion, psychic phenomena, economics, morality, masochism, history, and a bit of romance with an NYPD detective.

What intrigued me to read the book was this statement by the author trying to see if I would review the book, so I did.

everyday life would be like if the world went dark. Through the story there is glimmer of hope for mankind yet Abbey, the main character does not see it. I recommend this book to anyone enjoys reading about a cruel world where there is little hope, few places where there is life. Other places are filled people mainly living to just exist. Abbey has a hard time staying in the present and deciding if life is worth living. She floats between her terrible past and the events that occur daily trying to determine whether to live or die.
When she is sold by her father, Abbey discovers that nightmares can occur when you’re awake. Trapped inside a wooden cage, Abbey is forced to listen to the horrors and atrocities above; time ticking down until it is her turn. But Abbey isn’t prepared to become a victim; she will escape.
I gave this a four and half stars but only four on Amazon since I couldn’t give it a half star. I didn’t quite love it but I liked the story as written by Charles. The only thing that bugged me about the story was that there were gaps (Blank spaces) in the middle of some of the words. I am sure it was caused in the uploading and converting the story into Mobi. Otherwise, the story is a gripping story that will keep you riveted to the book to find out what happens next. Set in the context of how the tabloids rush stories to print without knowing the whole truth just to be the first to print the stories. In their rush to print, countless lies are told that people believe and some end up destroying the lives of those they fabricate the story about. This story is about how a murder sets in motion a series of events that brings back most of the characters in Charles’s “Web of Deceit series”. Here is the link to this book on Amazon
